На Мальдивах распространённость употребления табачных изделий среди населения в возрасте 15 лет и старше в 2024 году, по оценкам Всемирной организации здравоохранения (ВОЗ), составляла 28,8%. Детальный анализ показывает, что среди мужчин этот показатель был значительно выше — 43,3%, тогда как среди женщин лишь 3,2%. В том же году было зафиксировано 120 000 человек, употребляющих табачные изделия. В 2021 году ежедневная распространённость употребления табака среди взрослых составляла 20,1%: 33,5% среди мужчин и 3,5% среди женщин. Данные также свидетельствуют, что в 2021 году было зарегистрировано 203 случая смерти, обусловленных употреблением табака, что соответствовало 12,8% всех случаев смерти в стране. Из них 165 были мужчины и 37 женщины. Это означает, что уровень смертности, связанный с употреблением табачных изделий, среди мужчин составил 16,68%, а среди женщин — 6,32%. Эти статистические данные подчёркивают гендерные различия в распространённости употребления табачных изделий и свидетельствуют о значительном вреде для здоровья, который наносит употребление табака на Мальдивах.
