W Malediwach w 2022 roku odsetek osób palących tytoń w wieku 15 lat i więcej wynosił według Światowej Organizacji Zdrowia (WHO) 26,6%. Szczegółowe dane pokazują, że odsetek palących mężczyzn był znacznie wyższy i wynosił 43,6%, podczas gdy wśród kobiet było to 3,7%. Liczbę palaczy w tym samym roku oszacowano na 113 414 osób. W 2021 roku rozpowszechnienie codziennego palenia tytoniu wśród dorosłych wynosiło 20,1% – wśród mężczyzn 33,5%, a wśród kobiet 3,5%. Dane wskazują również, że w 2021 roku odnotowano 203 zgony przypisywane paleniu tytoniu, co stanowiło 12,8% wszystkich zgonów w kraju; spośród nich 165 dotyczyło mężczyzn, a 37 kobiet. Oznacza to, że udział zgonów związanych z paleniem wśród mężczyzn wynosił 16,68%, natomiast wśród kobiet 6,32%. Statystyki te podkreślają różnice między płciami w rozpowszechnieniu palenia tytoniu oraz skalę problemu zdrowotnego, jaki powoduje palenie w Malediwach.
