Курение табака в Кении по-прежнему остаётся серьёзной проблемой общественного здравоохранения. По данным Всемирной организации здравоохранения (ВОЗ), в 2024 году число взрослых, которым 15 лет и старше и которые курят, оценивалось в 2,3 миллиона человек. Это свидетельствует о том, что распространённость курения среди взрослого населения составляет 6,4%, при этом отмечается значительный гендерный дисбаланс: курят 12,1% мужчин и 0,9% женщин. Это немного ниже по сравнению с 2020 годом, когда этот показатель составлял 8,1% в целом, при этом курили 15,6% мужчин и 0,8% женщин. В 2021 году из-за курения табака умерли 9418 человек, что составляет 2,63% всех смертей, связанных с курением. Существенные различия наблюдаются и по уровню смертности: среди мужчин погибло 7810 человек (3,81% всех мужских смертей), среди женщин — 1608 человек (1,05% всех женских смертей). Для сравнения, в 2015 году ежедневное курение среди взрослого населения составляло 8,3%, среди мужчин — 16,6%, среди женщин — 0,4%. Эти данные подчёркивают сохраняющуюся актуальность проблемы курения табака в Кении и необходимость дальнейших мер в сфере общественного здравоохранения и регулирования с целью сокращения распространённости курения и связанных с ним негативных последствий для здоровья.
