Rozpowszechnienie palenia tytoniu w Kenii pozostaje poważnym problemem zdrowia publicznego. Według danych Światowej Organizacji Zdrowia (WHO), w 2022 roku liczba osób palących tytoń w wieku 15 lat i więcej wynosiła szacunkowo 2 573 131. Ogólna częstość palenia wśród dorosłych w tym samym roku wyniosła 7,6%, przy wyraźnej różnicy między płciami: paliło 14,7% mężczyzn i 0,7% kobiet. Oznacza to niewielki spadek w porównaniu do 2020 roku, kiedy to palenie tytoniu deklarowało 8,1% dorosłych ogółem, w tym 15,6% mężczyzn i 0,8% kobiet. W 2021 roku palenie tytoniu było przyczyną 9418 zgonów, co stanowiło 2,63% wszystkich zgonów przypisywanych paleniu. Różnice między płciami są widoczne również w śmiertelności związanej z paleniem: zmarło 7810 mężczyzn (3,81% wszystkich zgonów mężczyzn) oraz 1608 kobiet (1,05% wszystkich zgonów kobiet). Dla porównania, w 2015 roku codzienna częstość palenia wśród dorosłych wynosiła 8,3%, w tym 16,6% wśród mężczyzn i 0,4% wśród kobiet. Te dane podkreślają, że problem palenia tytoniu w Kenii nadal jest aktualny i wymaga dalszych interwencji w zakresie zdrowia publicznego oraz działań regulacyjnych, aby zmniejszyć skalę palenia i związane z nim konsekwencje zdrowotne.
