Access the GSTHR explanatory Briefing Paper on the FCTC COP10 in multiple languages.

From 20 - 25 November, representatives from more than 180 countries will attend the tenth Conference of the Parties (COP10) to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). Decisions taken at these meetings influence how international tobacco control policies are implemented at a national level, and will be very significant in determining the future of safer nicotine products, such as nicotine vapes, snus, nicotine pouches and heated tobacco products.

The Global State of Tobacco Harm Reduction has made its explanatory Briefing Paper about COP10 available in multiple languages, to increase awareness of the importance of the meetings among consumers of safer nicotine products, health officials and policymakers around the world. The Briefing Paper covers:

  • What is the FCTC, what are COP meetings and how do they function?
  • Who attends and contributes to COP meetings?
  • Which non-state observers are present at COP meetings?
  • How can those who are not participants engage with COP meetings?

English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swahili versions are accessible now.

It is expected that the decisions taken at COP10 will be very significant in determining the future of safer nicotine products (SNP), such as nicotine vapes (e-cigarettes), snus, nicotine pouches and heated tobacco products. Consumer access to these products is crucial to realise the public health potential of tobacco harm reduction in the global fight against tobacco-related death and disease.

The WHO FCTC has now published the provisional agenda and meeting documents.
