En Etiopía, el tabaco tradicional sin humo está permitido y regulado como un producto de tabaco. Su venta y consumo son legales, aunque no se permite la compra por internet. Además, existe una prohibición total de la publicidad y es obligatorio incluir advertencias sanitarias en los empaques. La edad mínima legal para adquirir este producto es de 21 años. Según datos de 2016, había aproximadamente 983,400 usuarios actuales de tabaco tradicional sin humo en el país. La prevalencia general de consumo actual en adultos era del 1.7%, con un 2.6% entre los hombres y un 0.8% entre las mujeres. La prevalencia de consumo diario en adultos era del 1.5%.
