Традиционные некурительные табачные изделия разрешены и регулируются в Эфиопии как табачные продукты. Продажа и использование этих изделий легальны, однако онлайн-покупка не допускается. Кроме того, действует полный запрет на любую рекламу, а на упаковке обязательно размещаются предупреждения о вреде для здоровья. Минимальный разрешённый возраст для приобретения составляет 21 год. Согласно статистике, в 2016 году в стране насчитывалось примерно 983 400 человек, которые в данный момент используют традиционные некурительные табачные изделия. Среди взрослого населения общая распространённость текущего потребления этих изделий составляла 1,7%: 2,6% среди мужчин и 0,8% среди женщин. Доля взрослых, которые употребляли такие изделия ежедневно, составила 1,5%.
