En Etiopía, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre adultos de 15 años o más se estimó en 3.1% en 2022. Esta cifra representa una leve disminución frente al 3.2% registrado en 2020 y al 3.4% de 2019. La prevalencia del tabaquismo entre hombres adultos se mantuvo estable en 5.5% tanto en 2022 como en 2020, mientras que entre mujeres adultas fue constante en 0.9% durante esos mismos años. El número total estimado de fumadores de tabaco en 2022 fue de aproximadamente 2,192,082, lo que muestra un leve aumento respecto a los 2,125,059 de 2020. Como referencia, la prevalencia diaria del consumo de tabaco en adultos en 2016 fue de 3.2%, con un 5.2% en hombres y 1.1% en mujeres. La mortalidad atribuible al consumo de tabaco en Etiopía también fue considerable, con 8,395 muertes registradas en 2021, lo que representó el 1.14% de todas las muertes en el país ese año. Las muertes relacionadas con el consumo de tabaco constituyeron el 1.63% de todos los fallecimientos masculinos y el 0.43% de los fallecimientos femeninos en 2021.
