In 2016, the number of current traditional smokeless tobacco users in Sudan was estimated to be 1.8 million. The prevalence of current traditional smokeless tobacco use among adults was 7.9 percent. Among adult males, the prevalence was 14.3 percent, while among adult females, it was 0.2 percent. The prevalence of daily traditional smokeless tobacco use among adults was 6.7 percent. Among adult males, daily use prevalence was 12.3 percent, and among adult females, it was 0.1 percent. Traditional smokeless tobacco is legally allowed in Sudan and is regulated as a tobacco product. A ban on all advertising is in place. The product is legal to sell and legal to use. Online purchase of traditional smokeless tobacco is also permitted. Health warnings on packaging is required by law and the minimum age restriction of 18 years is enforced for the sale of smokeless tobacco products.
