In 2020, there were approximately 18,300 current users of traditional smokeless tobacco in Cabo Verde. The overall prevalence of current use of traditional smokeless tobacco among adults was 4.7 percent, with a higher prevalence among females at 5.8 percent compared to 3.5 percent among males. The prevalence of daily use of smokeless tobacco among adults was 3.6 percent, including 4.6 percent among females and 2.6 percent among males. Traditional smokeless tobacco is allowed and regulated as a tobacco product in Cabo Verde. It is legal to import the product for trade, with a license, and it is legal to sell the product. However, there is a ban on all advertising. Online purchase of traditional smokeless tobacco is not allowed. Moreover, health warnings on packaging are required by law, and a minimum age restriction of 18 years is enforced for sales.
