В Нигерии распространённость курения табака среди взрослых в возрасте 15 лет и старше по оценкам составила 2,9% в 2024 году, тогда как в 2020 году этот показатель составлял 2,6%. В 2024 году распространённость курения среди мужчин достигла 5,4%, а среди женщин — 0,3%. Общее число людей, которые курят, в 2024 году составило примерно 3,8 миллиона, что представляет собой заметный рост по сравнению с 2 906 910 в 2020 году. Для сравнения, ежедневная распространённость курения среди взрослых в 2017 году составляла 4,6%, при этом среди мужчин — 8,6%, а среди женщин — 0,5%. В 2021 году смертность, связанная с курением, была значительной — зафиксировано 15 926 случаев смерти, что составило 0,87% всех смертей в стране: от курения табака умерли 11 794 мужчины и 4 132 женщины, что соответственно составляет 1,2% и 0,49% всех мужских и женских смертей. Эти данные подчёркивают проблемы для системы здравоохранения, обусловленные курением табака в Нигерии, и указывают на необходимость дальнейшего мониторинга и регулирования для снижения негативных последствий.
