W Nigerii rozpowszechnienie palenia tytoniu wśród dorosłych w wieku 15 lat i starszych szacowano w 2022 roku na 2,9%. Dla porównania, w 2020 roku wskaźnik ten wynosił 2,6%. W 2022 roku odsetek palących wyniósł 5,4% wśród mężczyzn i 0,4% wśród kobiet. Liczbę palaczy w 2022 roku oszacowano na około 3 432 243, co stanowi wzrost w porównaniu z 2 906 910 w 2020 roku. Dla porównania, codzienne palenie wśród dorosłych w 2017 roku miało rozpowszechnienie na poziomie 4,6%, przy czym u mężczyzn wynosiło ono 8,6%, a u kobiet 0,5%. W 2021 roku śmiertelność związana z paleniem tytoniu była znacząca i wyniosła 15 926 zgonów, co stanowiło 0,87% wszystkich zgonów w kraju. Z tego tytułu zmarło 11 794 mężczyzn i 4 132 kobiety, co odpowiada odpowiednio 1,2% wszystkich zgonów mężczyzn oraz 0,49% zgonów kobiet.
