В Бразилии продажа сигарет является легальной, покупка разрешена как онлайн, так и через торговые автоматы. Импорт табачных изделий для коммерческих целей допускается при наличии импортной лицензии. На табачные изделия, включая сигареты, распространяется полный запрет на всякую рекламу. Также предусмотрены обязательные предупреждения о вреде курения на упаковке, защищённой от детей, а минимальный возраст для покупки сигарет установлен на уровне 18 лет. Существуют правовые ограничения на курение в общественных местах, а суммарная ставка налогообложения на сигареты составляет 80%. Согласно данным о распространённости, в 2024 году в Бразилии насчитывалось около 20,1 миллиона взрослых, которые курят, что соответствует доле 12% взрослого населения; среди мужчин данный показатель составил 15,7%, среди женщин — 9,1%. По данным за 2019 год, количество ежедневно курящих оценивается примерно в 17,7 миллиона человек, а доля среди взрослых — 11,4%, при этом среди мужчин — 14,3%, среди женщин — 8,8%. Согласно информации за 2021 год, употребление табака привело примерно к 134 200 случаям смерти, включая 89 000 среди мужчин и 45 200 среди женщин. Это означает, что курение обусловило 7,47% всех смертей в стране, причём среди мужчин — 8,89%, а среди женщин — 5,68%.
