En Brasil, la venta de cigarrillos es legal, y su compra tanto por internet como en máquinas expendedoras está permitida. La importación con fines comerciales se autoriza mediante licencia de importación. Los productos de tabaco, incluidos los cigarrillos, están sujetos a una prohibición total de toda forma de publicidad. Además, es obligatorio que los paquetes de cigarrillos lleven advertencias sanitarias, y la edad mínima legal para comprarlos es de 18 años. Existen restricciones legales para fumar en espacios públicos, y los cigarrillos están gravados con una tasa total de impuestos del 80%. En 2022, se estimaba que Brasil contaba con 20,8 millones de adultos fumadores actuales, con una prevalencia de consumo de tabaco en adultos del 12,3%. Entre los hombres, la prevalencia era del 15,7% y entre las mujeres, del 9,1%. En 2019, la cantidad de fumadores diarios era aproximadamente de 17,7 millones, con una prevalencia diaria en adultos del 11,4%—14,3% en hombres y 8,8% en mujeres. Según datos de 2021, el consumo de tabaco causó aproximadamente 134.200 muertes, incluyendo 89.000 en hombres y 45.200 en mujeres. Esto representa el 7,47% de todas las muertes del país—8,89% de las muertes masculinas y 5,68% de las femeninas.
