En 2016, la prevalencia de tabaquismo diario en Sudán se registró en un 6,9% entre adultos de 18 a 69 años, con una marcada diferencia entre géneros: 12,6% en hombres y solo 0,3% en mujeres. En 2021, se estimó que el 6,16% de todas las muertes estaban atribuibles al consumo de tabaco, con un desglose por género de 8,43% en hombres y 2,83% en mujeres. En cifras absolutas, esto representa 15,144 muertes relacionadas con el tabaquismo, de las cuales 12,322 correspondieron a hombres y 2,823 a mujeres. En comparación, los datos de 2016 indicaban un porcentaje anual ligeramente superior de muertes atribuibles al consumo de tabaco, con un 6,81% (8% en hombres y 3,7% en mujeres), y un total de 13,061 muertes relacionadas con el tabaquismo. Estas cifras resaltan la necesidad urgente de implementar intervenciones de salud pública eficaces para abordar este problema en Sudán.
