Общее число взрослых, которые курят в Судане, составило 5,9 миллиона в 2024 году. По данным на 2016 год, распространённость ежедневного потребления табака среди взрослого населения в возрасте 18–69 лет составляла 6,9%, при этом наблюдалась значительная разница между мужчинами и женщинами: 12,6% среди мужчин и всего 0,3% среди женщин. В 2021 году доля всех смертей, связанных с употреблением табака, оценивалась в 6,16%, при этом среди мужчин этот показатель достигал 8,43%, а среди женщин – 2,83%. В абсолютных значениях это соответствует 15 144 случаям смерти, связанных с курением табака, из которых 12 322 — среди мужчин и 2 823 — среди женщин. Для сравнения, данные за 2016 год указывали на немного более высокий годовой процент смертей, обусловленных курением табака: 6,81% в целом, 8% среди мужчин и 3,7% среди женщин, с общим числом смертей — 13 061. Эти данные подчёркивают острую необходимость в эффективных мерах общественного здравоохранения для борьбы с данной проблемой в Судане.
