En Panamá, fumar está permitido y regulado. La venta, compra en línea e importación de cigarrillos con fines comerciales es legal, pero no se permite la venta a través de máquinas expendedoras. Existe una prohibición total de toda publicidad sobre tabaco, incluidos los cigarrillos. Los empaques de cigarrillos deben llevar advertencias sobre los riesgos para la salud y hay restricciones legales para fumar en lugares públicos. La edad mínima legal para comprar cigarrillos es de 18 años. También se aplica una tasa total de impuestos de 0.57 sobre los cigarrillos. En cuanto a la prevalencia, en 2022 se estimó que el 4.9% de los adultos eran fumadores actuales, incluyendo el 1.9% de las mujeres y el 8% de los hombres. El consumo de tabaco provocó 991 muertes en 2021, lo que representó el 4.13% de todas las muertes en el país—2.59% de las muertes de mujeres y 5.27% de los hombres.
