En Armenia, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre la población adulta de 15 años o más se registró en 22.5% en 2022, según las estimaciones de la Organización Mundial de la Salud. En particular, la prevalencia del tabaquismo entre los hombres fue considerablemente mayor, alcanzando el 49.3%, mientras que entre las mujeres fue notablemente menor, con solo un 1.7%. El número total de personas fumadoras en 2022 fue de aproximadamente 521,658. Esto representa una disminución respecto a 2020, cuando la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco era del 24% y el número de fumadores ascendía a 554,413. Como referencia, en 2017 la prevalencia diaria de tabaquismo en adultos fue del 21.6%, con un 46.4% entre hombres y un 1.2% entre mujeres. Los datos sobre mortalidad atribuible al tabaquismo en 2021 indican que el consumo de tabaco fue responsable del 16.22% de todas las muertes en el país, lo que corresponde a un total de 5,083 fallecimientos. De estas muertes, 4,337 fueron hombres y 746 fueron mujeres, lo que equivale al 26.28% de las muertes masculinas y al 5.03% de las muertes femeninas. Estos datos evidencian el importante desafío de salud pública que representa el consumo de tabaco en Armenia, especialmente entre la población masculina.
