Smoking is legally allowed in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with certain restrictions on tobacco products. Cigarettes can be legally sold and purchased, including online and from vending machines. Health warnings on packaging are required. Import for trade is allowed with import license. However, there is no total ban on smoking advertising, no minimum age restriction for purchasing, and no legal restrictions on smoking in public places. Cigarettes are subject to a total taxation rate of 23.23% with a specific excise tax of 6.88%.
The prevalence data show that there were an estimated 10,000 current smokers in the country as of 2024. This represents an adult current smoking prevalence of 12.2%, with a prevalence of 2.5% among females and 21.9% among males. In 2021, an estimated 49 deaths in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines were attributed to smoking, including 38 male deaths and 11 female deaths. This shows that smoking accounted for 4.27% of all deaths in the country, with 5.64% of male deaths and 2.28% of female deaths in 2021.
