As of 2019, Nepal had approximately 3.6 million current users of traditional smokeless tobacco, with an adult prevalence rate of 18.3%. Its use was markedly higher among men at 33.3%, compared to 4.9% among women. Its daily use was reported by 15.3% of adults, including 28.2% of men and 3.8% of women. Traditional smokeless tobacco is legal in Nepal and is regulated as a tobacco product. It is legal to sell and use these products and online purchases are also allowed. Nepal enforces a ban on all forms of tobacco advertising and requires health warnings on packaging. The minimum sales age is 18 years.
