As of 2021, the number of vapers in Indonesia was estimated to be 6 million, corresponding to a 3% vaping prevalence among adults. This includes a prevalence of 0.3% among females and 5.8% among males. Indonesia has adopted a positive regulatory stance towards e-cigarettes. Despite being classifyied as tobacco products, they are treated as consumer goods. As a result, it is legal to use, sell, and market vaping products, and individuals are permitted to purchase them online for personal use.
The importation of vaping products and nicotine for trade is allowed, and no prescriptions are required to purchase them. However, there are some regulations in place. Manufacturers are required to include health warnings on packaging and must adhere to nicotine content limits. Additionally, the excise tax on vaping products ranges from 10% to 50% of the tax levied on combustible cigarettes. Vaping is prohibited in public places, and the minimum age for purchasing vaping products is set at 21.
Overall, Indonesia offers a positive regulatory environment for vaping, providing smokers with a less harmful alternative to combustable cigarettes.
