In Fiji, smoking is allowed with certain restrictions. Cigarette sales are permitted, but, purchasing them from vending machines is not allowed. Buying cigarettes online and importing them for trade is legal with a license. Health warnings on cigarette packaging are mandatory, and the minimum legal age for purchasing cigarettes is 18 years. There are also legal restrictions on smoking in public places, and its advertising is regulated. Cigarettes are taxed at a total rate of 39%. In terms of prevelance, as of 2024, the total number of current adult smokers was 169,000 with an adult current smoking prevalence of 25.4%—38.8% among males and 12.4% among females. In 2021, an estimated 915 deaths were attributed to tobacco smoking, including 670 male and 245 female deaths. This indicates that smoking accounted for approximately 9.75% of all deaths in the country—12.78% among males and 5.91% among females.
These rates are modelled using all national survey data published since 1990 to estimate the underlying prevalence trends by sex, then applying age-standardization to allow comparison with other countries. They do not necessarily resemble country data from 2015
