В Танзании, согласно данным Всемирной организации здравоохранения (ВОЗ), в 2024 году распространённость курения среди взрослых в возрасте 15 лет и старше составила 5%. Этот показатель ниже, чем в предыдущие годы: в 2020 году – 6,7%, а в 2019 году – 11%. Общее число взрослых, которые курят в настоящее время, по оценке на 2024 год составило 2 миллиона человек. Распространённость курения среди мужчин в 2024 году составила 9,2%, а среди женщин — 1%. Для сравнения, в 2020 году курило 12,4% мужчин и 1,2% женщин, а в 2019 году эти показатели составляли 19,9% и 2% соответственно. В 2018 году ежедневное курение среди взрослых составляло 5,2%: среди мужчин — 9,9%, среди женщин — 0,9%. В абсолютных числах в 2022 году курили порядка 2 041 494 человек, что меньше, чем 2 166 098 в 2020 году и 3 435 679 в 2019 году. Смертность, связанная с курением, остаётся серьёзной проблемой: в 2021 году зарегистрировано 13 534 таких случая, из них 10 326 мужчин и 3 209 женщин. На смерть от причин, связанных с курением, пришлось 3,07% всех случаев смерти в стране, включая 4,29% среди мужчин и 1,61% среди женщин. Эти данные подчёркивают сохраняющееся негативное влияние курения на здоровье в Танзании, несмотря на тенденцию к снижению распространённости курения в последние годы.
