В Катаре в последние годы наблюдаются заметные изменения в распространённости курения табака среди взрослых. По данным на 2024 год, 442 000 человек в возрасте 15 лет и старше курят, что представляет собой значительный рост по сравнению с 399 889 человек в 2020 году и 318 105 человек в 2019 году. В 2024 году доля взрослых, которые курят в настоящее время, составила 17,4%, при выраженной разнице между мужчинами и женщинами: 21,9% мужчин и 3,7% женщин сообщили, что курят. Для сравнения, в 2020 году этот показатель составлял 20,1% среди мужчин и 1,7% среди женщин, что говорит о небольшом росте распространённости курения среди женщин за двухлетний период. Для справки: в 2013 году ежедневное курение табака среди взрослых составляло 9,5%, включая 16,5% среди мужчин и 1,7% среди женщин. Что касается смертности, связанной с курением, данные за 2021 год показывают, что употребление табака стало причиной 401 смерти в год, что составляет 7,92% всех случаев смерти, причём доля среди мужчин выше (9,5%), чем среди женщин (2,97%). Эти показатели подчёркивают актуальность проблемы для системы здравоохранения Катара и необходимость проведения целенаправленных мероприятий, направленных на сокращение как распространённости курения, так и связанных с ним последствий для здоровья.
