Несмотря на сокращение последствий табакокурения в Габоне за последние годы, статистика по распространённости курения и числу смертей, связанных с ним, по-прежнему свидетельствует о серьёзной проблеме общественного здравоохранения. В 2021 году было зафиксировано 501 случай смерти, связанный с употреблением табака, из них 77 — среди женщин и 423 — среди мужчин. Смертность вследствие табакокурения составила 3,22% всех случаев смерти в Габоне в 2021 году: 1,16% среди женщин и 4,77% среди мужчин. Эти данные свидетельствуют о незначительном снижении показателей по сравнению с предыдущими годами, так как в 2016 году общее число смертей, вызванных курением, составляло 569, а доля смертей от курения была выше — 4,56% в целом, включая 5,4% среди мужчин и 2,8% среди женщин. Что касается распространённости употребления табака, по оценкам, в 2024 году количество взрослых, которые курят в настоящее время, составит 177 000 человек, при этом общий показатель распространённости курения среди взрослых составляет 11,2%: 2,4% среди женщин и 19,6% среди мужчин. В 2017 году показатель ежедневного курения среди взрослых составлял 22,4% среди мужчин и 3,4% среди женщин. Эти данные подчёркивают сохраняющуюся значимость проблемы табакокурения в Габоне, особенно среди мужчин, и демонстрируют важность продолжения мероприятий по охране здоровья населения для борьбы с данной угрозой.
