Pomimo spadku skutków palenia tytoniu w Gabonie w ostatnich latach, statystyki dotyczące rozpowszechnienia nawyku oraz liczby zgonów wskazują na poważny problem zdrowia publicznego. W 2021 roku liczba zgonów związanych z paleniem wyniosła 501, w tym 77 wśród kobiet i 423 wśród mężczyzn. Zgony spowodowane paleniem tytoniu stanowiły 3,22% wszystkich zgonów w Gabonie w 2021 roku, przy czym odsetek ten wyniósł 1,16% wśród kobiet i 4,77% wśród mężczyzn. Oznacza to niewielki spadek w porównaniu z poprzednimi latami, gdyż w 2016 roku odnotowano 569 zgonów związanych z paleniem. Wówczas odsetek wszystkich zgonów przypisywanych paleniu był nieco wyższy i wynosił 4,56%, przy czym wśród mężczyzn osiągał 5,4%, a wśród kobiet 2,8%. Jeżeli chodzi o rozpowszechnienie palenia, w 2017 roku codzienne palenie wśród dorosłych występowało u 22,4% mężczyzn i 3,4% kobiet. Dane te podkreślają utrzymujące się obciążenie zdrowotne związane z paleniem tytoniu w Gabonie, szczególnie wśród mężczyzn, i pokazują, jak istotne jest dalsze prowadzenie działań w zakresie zdrowia publicznego, mających na celu rozwiązanie tego problemu.
