В Алжире распространённость употребления табачных изделий по-прежнему остаётся серьёзной проблемой общественного здравоохранения. По состоянию на 2024 год, доля взрослых, которые продолжают курить табак, составляла 17,7%, при выраженной разнице между полами: среди мужчин — 34,2%, а среди женщин — всего 0,6%. В 2020 году этот показатель среди мужчин был немного выше — 30,5%, в то время как среди женщин он оставался на уровне 0,6%. Общее количество людей в возрасте 15 лет и старше, употребляющих табачные изделия, в 2024 году оценивалось в 5,7 миллиона, что немного выше по сравнению с 4,6 миллионами в 2020 году. Доля взрослых, ежедневно употребляющих табак, составляла 14,3%, также с заметной гендерной разницей: среди мужчин — 28,1%, среди женщин — 0,3%. В 2021 году процент всех случаев смерти, связанных с употреблением табака, составил 8,44%, причём среди мужчин — 11,67%, а среди женщин — 4,15%. Это означает, что число смертей, связанных с курением, среди мужчин составило 18 214 человек, среди женщин — 4 869, что в общей сложности привело к 23 083 случаям смерти. Эти данные подчёркивают сохраняющиеся проблемы для здравоохранения, вызванные употреблением табака в Алжире, и требуют дальнейших системных мер в области общественного здравоохранения для решения данной проблемы.
