В Австрии электронные сигареты разрешены при соблюдении определённых нормативных требований. Продажа электронных сигарет и никотинсодержащих жидкостей легальна и осуществляется через обычные розничные каналы, однако приобретение этих товаров через интернет запрещено. Для новых продуктов требуется подача уведомления, обязательны упаковка, защищённая от детей, и предупреждения о вреде для здоровья на упаковке. Минимальный возраст для покупки электронных сигарет составляет 18 лет. Также введены ограничения на содержание никотина и объём резервуара, а использование электронных сигарет в определённых общественных местах ограничено законом. При этом запретов по вкусовым добавкам нет, а любые заявления о пользе для здоровья запрещены. Акцизный налог на продукцию для электронных сигарет не применяется. По оценкам, в 2023 году в Австрии насчитывалось около 307 000 человек, которые курят электронные сигареты. Распространённость использования электронных сигарет среди взрослых на момент последнего анализа составляла 4%, среди мужчин — 4,5%, среди женщин — 2,2% (по данным 2020 года). Ожидалось, что показатель ежедневного парения среди взрослых в 2025 году составит 0,9% (1,3% среди мужчин и 0,5% среди женщин).
