W Ekwadorze palenie tytoniu jest dozwolone z określonymi ograniczeniami. Sprzedaż papierosów jest legalna, jednak zakazane jest kupowanie ich w automatach. Możliwy jest zakup papierosów przez Internet oraz ich import na cele handlowe, ale wymaga to odpowiedniej licencji. Na opakowaniach papierosów obowiązkowe są ostrzeżenia zdrowotne, a minimalny wiek uprawniający do zakupu to 18 lat. Obowiązują również przepisy ograniczające palenie w miejscach publicznych, a reklama papierosów podlega regulacjom. Papierosy są objęte łącznym podatkiem w wysokości 64%. Według danych z 2022 roku w Ekwadorze było około 1,3 miliona obecnych palaczy, co odpowiada wskaźnikowi palenia wśród dorosłych wynoszącemu 10,1%. Wśród dorosłych mężczyzn odsetek ten wynosił 17,6%, natomiast wśród kobiet – 2,6%. W 2021 roku szacunkowo 3 600 zgonów przypisano paleniu tytoniu, w tym 2 800 mężczyzn i 808 kobiet. Oznacza to, że palenie tytoniu odpowiadało za około 2,9% wszystkich zgonów w kraju – 3,94% wśród mężczyzn oraz 1,52% wśród kobiet w tym roku.
