W Angoli palenie tytoniu oraz jego wpływ na zdrowie zostały szczegółowo udokumentowane na podstawie najnowszych danych. Według raportu Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021, zgony spowodowane paleniem tytoniu stanowiły 3,2% wszystkich zgonów w kraju w 2021 roku, w tym 4,93% wśród mężczyzn oraz 1,12% wśród kobiet. Łączna liczba zgonów przypisywanych paleniu tytoniu w 2021 roku wyniosła 7 988, z czego 6 725 dotyczyło mężczyzn, a 1 263 kobiet. Dla porównania, dane z 2016 roku wskazują na wyższy ogólny odsetek zgonów przypisanych paleniu tytoniu – 4,28%, z czego na mężczyzn przypadało 5,1%, a na kobiety 2,6%. W tym samym roku odnotowano ogółem 6 509 zgonów związanych z paleniem: 4 384 wśród mężczyzn oraz 2 125 wśród kobiet. Jeśli chodzi o codzienne palenie wśród dorosłych, badanie Demographic and Health Survey z lat 2015–2016 wykazało, że 8,8% mężczyzn i 1% kobiet w wieku 15–49 lat paliło papierosy codziennie. Dane te pokazują skalę obciążenia zdrowotnego związanego z paleniem w Angoli i podkreślają potrzebę wprowadzenia ukierunkowanych działań w zakresie zdrowia publicznego, aby ograniczyć rozpowszechnienie palenia i jego negatywne skutki.
