En Angola, el consumo de tabaco y su impacto en la salud han sido documentados con datos significativos en los últimos años. Según el informe Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021, la mortalidad atribuible al consumo de tabaco representó el 3,2% de todas las muertes en el país en 2021, incluyendo el 4,93% de los fallecimientos entre los hombres y el 1,12% entre las mujeres. El número total de muertes atribuidas al consumo de tabaco en 2021 alcanzó las 7.988, de las cuales 6.725 correspondieron a hombres y 1.263 a mujeres. En comparación, los datos de 2016 indicaban un porcentaje global mayor de muertes relacionadas con el tabaco, ascendiendo al 4,28%, siendo del 5,1% en hombres y del 2,6% en mujeres. Ese mismo año, el número total de fallecimientos por consumo de tabaco fue de 6.509, con 4.384 muertes masculinas y 2.125 femeninas. En cuanto a la prevalencia del consumo diario de tabaco en adultos, la Encuesta Demográfica y de Salud 2015-16 informó que el 8,8% de los hombres y el 1% de las mujeres de entre 15 y 49 años fumaban a diario. Esta información ofrece una visión integral de la carga sanitaria derivada del tabaquismo en Angola, y pone de manifiesto la necesidad de intervenciones de salud pública dirigidas a reducir la prevalencia del consumo y sus consecuencias asociadas.
