En Mali, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre adultos de 15 años o más se registró en 6,3% en 2022, con una marcada diferencia entre géneros. Los hombres adultos presentaron una prevalencia más alta, del 11,9%, mientras que entre las mujeres adultas fue considerablemente menor, con un 0,6%. Estas cifras difieren de datos previos, como los de 2020, cuando la prevalencia general entre adultos era ligeramente superior, con un 6,6%; en ese año, la prevalencia entre hombres era del 12,7% y entre mujeres del 0,6%. Se estima que en 2022 había 691,633 personas fumadoras en Mali. Las muertes atribuibles al consumo de tabaco representaron el 1,83% del total de fallecimientos en el país en 2021, lo que equivale a 4,273 muertes. La mortalidad específica por género fue del 2,41% en hombres y del 1,09% en mujeres, lo que corresponde a 3,157 muertes masculinas y 1,116 femeninas. Estas estadísticas ponen de relieve las implicaciones para la salud pública del tabaquismo en Mali y subrayan la necesidad de intervenciones específicas para reducir la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco y los riesgos asociados para la salud.
