En la República Dominicana, fumar es legal con ciertas restricciones. La venta de cigarrillos está permitida, así como su adquisición en máquinas expendedoras. También es legal comprar cigarrillos en línea e importarlos para fines comerciales con una licencia de importación. Las advertencias sanitarias en los paquetes de cigarrillos son obligatorias y la edad mínima legal para comprarlos es de 18 años. Asimismo, existen restricciones legales para fumar en algunos lugares públicos, como centros educativos y establecimientos de salud. Los cigarrillos están gravados con una tasa total de 0.45. En cuanto a la prevalencia, en 2022 el porcentaje de adultos que fumaban era de 9.1%—12.5% en hombres y 5.7% en mujeres. En 2021, se estimó que 6,400 muertes se atribuyeron al consumo de tabaco, incluyendo 4,100 hombres y 2,200 mujeres. Esto indica que el tabaquismo fue responsable de aproximadamente el 8.72% de todas las muertes en el país—9.61% en hombres y 7.45% en mujeres en 2021.
