As of 2021, traditional smokeless tobacco use in Niger was relatively limited. Around 0.9% of adults used these products daily, with a gender breakdown of 1.1% among men and 0.7% among women. From a regulatory standpoint, traditional smokeless tobacco in Niger is allowed and regulated as a tobacco product. It is thus legal to sell, use, and purchase online. Packaging does not require health warnings, which leaves users with less direct information about the health risks. However, there is an age restriction, with sales limited to individuals 18 years and older.
