In the Marshall Islands, smoking is legally allowed with specific restrictions in place. It is legal to sell cigarettes and import them for trade, but illegal to buy from vending machines or online. Health warnings on packaging are mandatory, minimum age restrictions of 18 years apply for sales, and there are legal restrictions on smoking in public places. The total taxation rate on tobacco products is 0.51. Despite these controls, the adult current smoking prevalence was reported to be 24.2% in 2024, with a higher rate among males (43.4%) compared to females (4%). The total number of current smokers was estimated to be 6,000 individuals. Smoking-related mortality accounts for 58 annual deaths, representing 13.01% of all deaths in the country, with a greater impact on males (17.27%) than females (7.42%).
