In 2018, the prevalence of current traditional smokeless tobacco use among adults in Benin was 6.9 percent for males and 1 percent for females. Traditional smokeless tobacco is legally allowed in the country and is regulated as a tobacco product. It is legal to sell, use, and purchase the product. Although the products are marketed, there is a ban on all advertising. Moreover, health warnings on packaging are required, and minimum age restriction on sales is 18 years.
