Data sourced: 2024.   Page updated: 2025-12-11

In Monaco, smoking is legal but it is required to follow a range of tobacco control regulations. Cigarettes are regulated as tobacco products and may be sold through retail outlets, including online sales and vending machine purchases. The importation of cigarettes for trade is allowed with a trade license. Health warnings on packaging are not required, the legal minimum age for purchase is 16 years, and smoking in public places is subject to legal restrictions. Advertising is regulated but not all forms of tobacco advertising are banned. Cigarettes in Monaco are taxed at a total rate of 68.48%, with an excise component of 7.05%.

Prevalence data on smoking in Monaco are missing, but the number of current adult smokers was reported to be 6,000 individuals in 2024. In 2021, smoking caused 74 deaths in Monaco, including 53 deaths among males and 21 among females. This shows that tobacco smoking accounted for 12.57% of all deaths in the country in 2021, including 17.18% of all male deaths and 7.57% of all female deaths.
