Parts of the Model

  1. Filter Plug A crimped bundle of acetate fibers bonded with triacetin. It sets the draw resistance and traps part of the particulate phase of the smoke.
  2. Plug Wrap Holds the tow in a round plug. It is highly porous so that air drawn in through the tipping perforations can reach the filter.
  3. Tipping Paper Joins the filter to the tobacco rod. The laser-perforated rows let outside air dilute the smoke as it is drawn.
  4. Cigarette Paper Wraps the tobacco rod. Citrate burn additives control the burn rate, and the two low ignition propensity bands make an unattended cigarette more likely to go out.
  5. Tobacco Rod Shredded leaf lamina mixed with expanded stem and reconstituted sheet, formed into a continuous rod on the maker and cut to length.

Tobacco products intended to be burned, with the resulting smoke inhaled by the user. This category includes manufactured cigarettes, roll-your-own cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, pipe tobacco, and waterpipe tobacco. The defining characteristic is the combustion of tobacco.
