В Южной Африке текущая распространённость курения табака среди взрослых в возрасте 15 лет и старше составила 23,3% в 2024 году. Для сравнения, этот показатель был 20,2% в 2020 году и 20,7% в 2019 году. Согласно гендерной статистике за 2024 год, табак курили 39,3% мужчин и 8,5% женщин, что свидетельствует о значительных различиях между полами в привычках курения. Общее количество курящих на 2024 год оценивается в 10,9 миллиона человек. Показатель ежедневного курения среди взрослых в 2021 году составил 21,2%, включая 35,1% среди мужчин и 8,3% среди женщин. Что касается смертности, курение стало причиной 4,42% всех случаев смерти в 2021 году, при этом у мужчин эта доля составила 5,75%, а у женщин — 2,86%. В 2021 году зарегистрировано 32 442 случая смерти, связанных с курением, из них 22 817 мужчин и 9 625 женщин. Кроме того, число курящих в 2022 году составило примерно 8 617 084 человек, что представляет рост по сравнению с 8 323 703 курящими в 2020 году. Эти данные подчёркивают продолжающуюся проблему общественного здравоохранения, связанную с курением табака в Южной Африке, и указывают на необходимость целевых мер по снижению распространённости курения и связанной с ним смертности.

Tobacco harm reduction in Sub-Saharan Africa

With the number of tobacco users across the continent set to rise by 2025, we look at the current state of tobacco harm reduction in the region, assessing the progress made so far and the obstacles preventing greater adoption of safer nicotine products.
