Данных о распространённости курения табачных изделий среди взрослых в Таджикистане нет, однако по оценкам на 2024 год число людей, которые курят сейчас, составляет 1,5 миллиона. В 2017 году распространённость курения среди взрослых женщин оценивалась в 0,5%. Курение табака стало причиной примерно 3,5 тысячи смертей в стране в 2021 году, из которых 2,9 тысячи были среди мужчин и 657 — среди женщин. Это означает, что курение явилось причиной 5,99% всех случаев смерти за год по стране, включая 8,39% всех мужских и 2,66% всех женских смертей в 2021 году. В части регулирования курение в Таджикистане разрешено законом, а сигареты регулируются как табачное изделие: их продажа, приобретение и потребление легальны. При этом продажа сигарет через торговые автоматы или онлайн строго запрещена. Продажа допускается только тем, кто достиг 18 лет и старше. Закон допускает легкий импорт сигарет для личного пользования и коммерческой торговли с определёнными ограничениями. На упаковке обязательно размещение предупреждений о вреде для здоровья. Кроме того, курение ограничено в ряде общественных мест согласно национальному законодательству. На сигареты действует общий налог в размере 59%.
