Odsetek osób dorosłych palących tytoń wśród kobiet w Tadżykistanie wynosił 0,5% w 2017 roku. Palenie tytoniu odpowiadało za około 3,5 tysiąca zgonów w kraju w 2021 roku, z czego 2,9 tysiąca stanowiły zgony mężczyzn, a 657 – kobiet. Oznacza to, że palenie przyczyniło się do 5,99% wszystkich rocznych zgonów, w tym do 8,39% zgonów mężczyzn oraz 2,66% zgonów kobiet w 2021 roku. Jeśli chodzi o przepisy prawne, palenie jest w Tadżykistanie dozwolone, a papierosy są regulowane jako produkty tytoniowe. Sprzedaż, zakup i używanie tych produktów są więc legalne. Zabroniona jest natomiast sprzedaż papierosów w automatach oraz przez internet. Papierosy mogą być sprzedawane wyłącznie osobom powyżej 18. roku życia. Legalny jest import papierosów zarówno na własny użytek, jak i w celach handlowych, pod określonymi warunkami. Opakowania muszą zawierać ostrzeżenia zdrowotne. Dodatkowo palenie podlega ograniczeniom w wybranych miejscach publicznych zgodnie z obowiązującymi przepisami krajowymi. Podstawowa stawka opodatkowania papierosów wynosi 59%.
