В Сенегале текущая распространённость употребления табака среди взрослых в возрасте 15 лет и старше по состоянию на 2024 год составила 5,1%, при этом отмечается значительная разница между мужчинами и женщинами: среди мужчин этот показатель составил 9,6%, а среди женщин — лишь 0,6%. Для сравнения, в 2020 году общая распространённость табакокурения среди взрослых составляла 5,5%, при этом среди мужчин было 11,1%, а среди женщин — 0,5%. Общее количество людей, которые курят, в 2024 году оценивалось в 580 000 человек, что превышает показатель за 2020 год, когда их было 507 888. Для справки: ежедневная распространённость курения среди взрослых в 2017 году составляла 4,9%, в том числе 9,7% среди мужчин и 0,3% — среди женщин. Данные о смертности, связанной с курением, за 2021 год показывают, что курение стало причиной 2,85% всех случаев смерти в Сенегале, в том числе 3,92% смертей среди мужчин и 1,51% среди женщин. Ежегодное количество смертей, связанных с курением, в 2021 году составило 3 171, из них 2 429 мужчин и 742 женщины. Эти показатели подчёркивают продолжающуюся проблему для общественного здравоохранения, которую представляет курение табака в Сенегале, и необходимость дальнейших регулятивных и медицинских мер для снижения его негативного влияния на здоровье.
