В Мексике регулирование табачных изделий, включая сигареты, осуществляется в рамках законодательства, которое разрешает их продажу и употребление, но ограничивает некоторые практики. Например, приобретение сигарет через автоматы или онлайн запрещено. На упаковке обязательно размещение предупреждений о вреде для здоровья, а минимальный возраст для покупки составляет 18 лет. Также установлены ограничения на курение в общественных местах. В Мексике действует полный запрет на любую рекламу табака. Совокупная налоговая ставка на табачные изделия составляет 68%. В 2024 году в стране насчитывалось примерно 15,2 миллиона взрослых, которые курят, что соответствует распространённости курения среди взрослого населения на уровне 15,4%, включая 23,9% среди мужчин и 7,6% среди женщин. В 2021 году ежедневно курили 6,9 миллиона человек, что составляло 8,6% взрослого населения; среди них ежедневное курение было отмечено у 13,2% мужчин и 4,4% женщин. Смертность, связанная с употреблением табака, также остаётся высокой: по данным за 2021 год, 39 500 случаев смерти были обусловлены табачным курением, из них 30 000 среди мужчин и 9 600 среди женщин. В 2021 году табачное курение составило 3,54% всех смертей, причём доля мужчин была выше (4,64%), чем у женщин (2,04%).
