По состоянию на 2024 год распространённость курения табака в Молдове составила 25,5% среди населения в возрасте 15 лет и старше, при этом наблюдается значительное гендерное различие: среди мужчин этот показатель достиг 50%, тогда как среди женщин он заметно ниже — 5,8%. Это свидетельствует о сохраняющейся тенденции к курению, поскольку общий показатель немного увеличился с 24,5% в 2020 году. Оценочное число людей, которые курят в Молдове, в 2024 году составило примерно 616 000, что отражает снижение по сравнению с 821 313 в 2020 году. Для сравнения, в 2017 году распространённость ежедневного курения среди взрослых составляла 20,5%, в том числе 38% среди мужчин и 4,7% среди женщин. Смертность, связанная с курением, по-прежнему является серьёзной проблемой общественного здравоохранения: в 2021 году было зарегистрировано 5 376 смертей, что составляет 10,71% от всех случаев смерти в стране, из них 4 649 — среди мужчин и 726 — среди женщин, что подчёркивает гендерные особенности воздействия табака.
