W Zambii odnotowuje się spadek częstości palenia tytoniu wśród dorosłych w wieku 15 lat i starszych na przestrzeni ostatnich lat. W 2022 roku ogólna częstość palenia wśród dorosłych wyniosła 10,7%. Zjawisko to cechuje wyraźna różnica między płciami: 20,2% dorosłych mężczyzn paliło tytoń, podczas gdy wśród kobiet odsetek ten wyniósł 1,6%. Oznacza to spadek w porównaniu do 2019 roku, kiedy ogólna częstość palenia wynosiła 13,5%, przy 24,1% wśród mężczyzn i 3% wśród kobiet. Przekłada się to na liczbę około 1 133 089 palących w 2022 roku, wobec 1 279 797 w roku 2019. Dla porównania, odsetek dorosłych palących codziennie w 2017 roku wynosił 9,6%, a wśród mężczyzn 12,7%. Wskaźnik ten u kobiet w 2015 roku wynosił 2,2%. Śmiertelność związana z paleniem również wykazuje różnice ze względu na płeć; w 2021 roku odnotowano 3 814 zgonów rocznie przypisywanych paleniu tytoniu, z czego 2 677 dotyczyło mężczyzn, a 1 138 kobiet. Oznacza to, że odsetek wszystkich zgonów przypisywany paleniu tytoniu wyniósł 2,18%, w tym 2,67% wśród mężczyzn i 1,52% wśród kobiet. Tendencje te wskazują na postęp w ograniczaniu palenia tytoniu i związanych z nim konsekwencji zdrowotnych w Zambii w ostatnich latach, choć utrzymujące się różnice między płciami podkreślają potrzebę działań ukierunkowanych na konkretne grupy.
