В Замбии в последние годы наблюдается снижение распространённости курения табака среди взрослых в возрасте 15 лет и старше. По данным на 2024 год, доля взрослых, которые в настоящее время курят, составила 10,5%. Отмечается существенная разница между мужчинами и женщинами: среди мужчин этот показатель достиг 19,8%, а среди женщин — лишь 1,6%. Для сравнения, в 2019 году общая распространённость курения составляла 13,5% (24,1% среди мужчин и 3% среди женщин). В пересчёте на численность это примерно 1,3 миллиона человек, употребляющих табак в 2024 году, что немного больше по сравнению с 1 279 797 в 2019 году. Для справки, в 2017 году доля ежедневно курящих взрослых составляла 9,6%, а среди мужчин — 12,7%. Среди женщин эта распространённость была 2,2% в 2015 году. Смертность, связанная с курением, также различалась по полу: в 2021 году от заболеваний, обусловленных курением, ежегодно умирало 3814 человек, из них 2677 мужчин и 1138 женщин. Это означает, что на долю курения приходилось 2,18% от общего числа смертей (2,67% среди мужчин и 1,52% среди женщин). Эти данные свидетельствуют о положительных сдвигах в борьбе с курением табака и его последствиями для здоровья в Замбии в последние годы, однако гендерные различия остаются значительными и указывают на необходимость проведения целевых профилактических мероприятий.
