W Filipinach palenie tytoniu pozostaje istotnym problemem zdrowia publicznego. Według szacunków z 2022 roku odsetek osób palących wśród dorosłych w wieku 15 lat i starszych wynosił 20,4%, przy wyraźnej różnicy pomiędzy płciami. Odsetek palących mężczyzn wynosił 36,2%, natomiast kobiet – 4,3%. Łączna liczba osób palących została oszacowana na około 15,8 miliona. Dla porównania, według wcześniejszych danych z 2021 roku, odsetek palących mężczyzn wynosił 33,3%, a kobiet 3,7%. W 2021 roku codzienne palenie tytoniu dotyczyło 14,5% dorosłej populacji, przy wskaźniku 26,3% wśród mężczyzn i 2,6% wśród kobiet. Ponadto, zgony związane z paleniem nadal stanowią poważne wyzwanie dla zdrowia publicznego. W 2021 roku 88 169 zgonów przypisano paleniu, co stanowiło 10% wszystkich zgonów w kraju w tym roku. Dane według płci wskazują, że zgony związane z paleniem odpowiadały za 13,34% wszystkich zgonów mężczyzn i 5,26% wszystkich zgonów kobiet w 2021 roku. Statystyki te podkreślają pilną potrzebę skutecznych działań w zakresie zdrowia publicznego, ukierunkowanych na ograniczenie wysokiego odsetka osób palących oraz związanych z tym konsekwencji zdrowotnych na Filipinach.
