W Iraku szacowana w 2022 roku rozpowszechnienie palenia tytoniu wśród osób dorosłych w wieku 15 lat i starszych wskazuje na znaczącą różnicę między płciami. Odsetek palaczy wśród mężczyzn wynosi 36%, podczas gdy wśród kobiet jest on znacznie niższy i wynosi 1,6%. Ogółem wskaźnik palenia wśród dorosłych to 18,7%, co stanowi niewielki spadek w porównaniu do 18,9% w 2020 roku. Całkowitą liczbę palaczy w 2022 roku oszacowano na 4 801 707 osób. W 2017 roku rozpowszechnienie codziennego palenia tytoniu wśród dorosłych wynosiło 19,6%, przy czym odpowiednio 36,1% wśród mężczyzn i 1,8% wśród kobiet. Te dane są kluczowe dla zrozumienia wpływu palenia tytoniu na zdrowie publiczne w kraju. Jeśli chodzi o zgony związane z paleniem, dane z 2021 roku pokazują, że palenie odpowiada za 11,71% wszystkich zgonów, w tym za 15,47% zgonów wśród mężczyzn oraz 6,05% wśród kobiet.
