W Bangladeszu odsetek palących tytoń wśród osób dorosłych w wieku 15 lat i więcej wyniósł w 2022 roku 16,8%. Liczba palaczy tytoniu w 2022 roku wyniosła około 20 395 570, podczas gdy w 2020 było ich 21 861 299, a w 2019 – 24 148 834. Analizując dane według płci, w 2022 roku palenie tytoniu było znacznie bardziej powszechne wśród mężczyzn (34,1%) niż wśród kobiet (0,4%). Dla mężczyzn oznacza to niewielki spadek z 36,4% w 2020 i 40,8% w 2019 roku; w przypadku kobiet odsetek także zmalał – z 0,5% w 2020 i 1% w 2019 roku. W 2018 roku codziennie tytoń paliło 22,3% dorosłych, w tym 44,4% mężczyzn i 0,9% kobiet. W 2021 roku palenie tytoniu przyczyniło się do 130 135 zgonów w kraju, co stanowiło 11,87% wszystkich zgonów w tym samym roku. Dane pokazują, że śmiertelność związana z paleniem stanowiła 16,83% wszystkich zgonów wśród mężczyzn oraz 4,98% wśród kobiet. Wskazuje to na istotne wyzwania dla zdrowia publicznego związane z paleniem tytoniu w Bangladeszu i podkreśla potrzebę podejmowania dalszych działań i polityki zdrowotnej służących ograniczeniu jego skutków.
