Many people quit smoking with no assistance at all. Other people benefit from using nicotine replacement therapy or medicines, although relapse rates are high.

But many people who smoke either want or need alternative ways of quitting smoking. The emergence of safer nicotine products gives people another way.

While quitting or after quitting smoking, consumers follow many different paths. Some may use both cigarettes and vaping products for a short or long time. Others may switch over to vaping, heated tobacco products or oral products completely. Others might use only non-nicotine liquid in their vaping products, or use a combination of different safer nicotine products.

Clinically speaking, there is very little if any harm associated even with long term use of nicotine once separated from smoking. Tobacco harm reduction offers new choices to people who want to quit smoking but have been unable to with the choices previously available.
